Kayaking on Yellowstone River from Gardiner, MT

Kayaking on Yellowstone River from Gardiner, MT

Kayaking on Yellowstone River from Gardiner, MT

Our sit-on-top kayak trips are designed for first time paddlers or paddlers with little or no river experience who want to learn about kayaking a river and experience the challenge of reading and running rapids in their own boat. Our seasoned instructors will teach the basics of equipment, safety and whitewater technique on the beach and in a quiet eddy out of the current, and then guide you down an appropriate stretch of river.

Big, beautiful and free-flowing, the Yellowstone River rolls along the north boundary of Yellowstone National Park through the many rapids of upper Paradise Valley. This is a wonderful river for all ages and a perfect river for a first time kayaker.

The Yellowstone warms up nicely by mid-summer. There are numerous eddies and rapids for a beginner to play in that are fun, but not intimidating. By mid-summer big, river-smoothed rocks start showing up that make a challenging maze for new paddlers.

For a difference experience down the river, please order either our Yellowstone River Rafting from Gardiner, MT - Full Day or Yellowstone River Rafting from Gardiner, MT - Half Day

What to Bring
~ Wear casual clothes and soft soled, tie-on shoes that you don't mind getting wet.
~ Always bring a sweater and sunscreen along on full day trips. Leave extra dry clothes and valuables locked in the car for after the trip.

Weather
Most days are sunny and warm, and you'll welcome the splash. But in early season (May and June) the water is much colder. For that, we strongly recommend renting wet suits. We have a large selection of high quality "Farmer John" wet suits in sizes ranging from Kids XS to Adult 4X. In addition, bring a fleece or wool sweater to wear with your wet suit. Wet suits and wet suit booties are $5.00. Booties alone are $2.00.

Can't Swim?
We take many non-swimmers down the river every year. Each passenger must wear a properly fitting life preserver at all times on the river.

We Provide
Rain jackets and rain pants, Coast Guard approved Type V life jackets, lunch and beverages for full day trips, and transportation to and from the river.

We reserve the right to cancel trips due to:
~ Water levels that are too high or too low.
~ Unseasonably cold temperatures
~ Insufficient number of people (2 person minimum for kayaking; 4 person minimum for rafting)

We take many children down the river every year, although we do restrict children from some stretches at high water levels.

~ Photos: Photos are taken of most trips, and proofs will be available to order from when you return to our office.

RESPONSIBILITY: Although every precaution is taken to safeguard you and your belongings, river trips by their nature, involve a certain amount of risk. We assume no responsibility whatsoever for injuries, damages, losses or delays to person or property. We recommend the purchase of an inexpensive travel insurance plan, including accident coverage.

~ Paricipants are required to acknowledge these risks by reading and signing a liability release prior to departure.
